악보 위에 수많은 음표를 그려 넣고, 소리의 결을 만지는 일을 직업으로 삼고 살아가다 보니, 가끔은 '침묵'보다 더 깊은 ‘음악’이 필요할 때가 있습니다.
Working as a composer, filling staves with notes and shaping the texture of sounds, I sometimes find myself needing 'music' that resonates deeper than silence.
오늘은 복잡한 화성학적 분석이나 완벽한 연주에 대한 강박은 잠시 내려놓고, 오직 음악 그 자체에만 집중할 수 있는 시간을 가져보고자 합니다.
Today, I want to set aside complex harmonic analysis and the pressure of perfection, and simply embrace a moment focused solely on the music itself.
제가 운영하는 이 음악숲의 첫 번째 큐레이션은, 작곡가의 시선으로 골라낸 낭만주의 시대의 곡입니다.
The first curation of my Music forest features pieces from the Romantic era, carefully selected through a composer's perspective.

쟝 시벨리우스 - 가문비나무
J. Sibelius - The spruce, Op.75, No.5
🌙 핀란드의 국민 작곡가 시벨리우스가 북유럽의 나무들(침엽수)을 주제로 쓴 5개의 피아노 소곡집 중 가장 마지막 곡이자 가장 알려진 곡입니다.
This is the last and most well-known piece among the five piano miniatures based on Northern European trees (conifers) by Finland's national composer, Sibelius.
추운 겨울에도 푸름을 잃지 않는 가문비나무의 강인함과 고독이 서늘한 선율 속에 담겨 있습니다.
It captures the resilience of the spruce tree-remaining green even in harsh winters-alongside a sense of solitude within it's cool, crisp melodies.
☑️ 모리의 시선 : 북유럽의 서늘한 화성과 절제된 음형이 만들어내는 공간감을 좋아합니다.
Mori's Note : I love the sense of space created by the cool Northern European harmonies and restrained textures.
여백이 많아서 자칫 뉴에이지나 현대의 음악처럼 들리는 이 곡은 머릿속의 소음을 잠재우기에 더없이 좋습니다.
With its ample "White space", this piece often feels like modern ambient or New Age music, making it perfect for quieting the noise in one's head.
요하네스 브람스 - 6개의 피아노 소품 중 2번
'인터메조'
J. Brahms - 'Intermezzo', Op.118, No.2
🌙 브람스가 60세 무렵에 은퇴 전에 쓴 후기 작품입니다.
A late masterpiece written by Brahms in his 60s, just before his retirement.
그간 웅장하고 진중한 교향곡과 작품들을 남겼지만, 후기로 갈수록 음악이 더 간결하고 담백해졌습니다.
While his earlier works were grand and serious symphonies, his later music became more concise and transparent.
이 곡은 특히 평생 클라라 슈만을 마음속으로 깊이 사랑했던 브람스가 개인적인 감정을 담은 곡이라고 할 수 있습니다.
This piece, in particular, reflects the deeply personal emotions of Brahms, who lifelong harbored a profound affection for Clara Schumann.
아름다운 멜로디 안으로 빈틈없이 자리 잡은 내성과 화려한 기교 대신 절제된 슬픔과 묵직한 그리움이 공존되는 느낌을 주는 아름다운 곡입니다.
It is a beautiful work where inner voices sit perfectly within a seamless melody, blending restrained sorrow with a heavy sense of longing.

가브리엘 포레 - 시칠리안느
G. Fauré - Sicilienne, Op.78
🌙 원래 연극 소품곡으로 쓰였던 이 곡은, 이탈리아 시칠리아 섬의 전통 춤곡 리듬을 바탕으로 합니다.
Originally written as incidental traditional dance rhythms of Sicily, Italy.
단조 특유의 애잔함과 8분의 6박자가 주는 일렁이는 리듬감이 마치 밤바다의 물결을 연상시킵니다.
The minor key's characteristic plaintiveness and the swaying 6/8 meter evoke the ripples of a moonlit sea.

Mori's Note : Pay attention to the swaying 6/8 rhythm hidden beneath the minor-key melancholy.

To me, as a composer, this rhythm feels like taking a midnight stroll at an Andante pace.
세르게이 라흐마니노프 - 보칼리제
S. Rachmaninoff - Vocalise, Op.34, No.14
🌙 가사 없이 오직 모음 하나로만 부르는 성악곡입니다.
A vocal work sung entirely on a single vowel without lyrics.
라흐마니노프 특유의 서정적인 멜로디가 극대화된 곡으로, 가사가 없기에 오히려 듣는 이마다 각자의 감정과 이야기를 투영할 수 있는 마법 같은 곡입니다.
Rachmaninoff's signature lyrical melody is maximized here; the absence of text makes it a magical piece emotions and stories into the music.

프란츠 리스트 - 위로 3번
F. Liszt - Consolation No.3
🌙 화려한 기교의 대명사 리스트가 사랑과 종교적 고뇌를 겪으며 쓴 짧은 시 같은 곡입니다.
Liszt, a master of brilliant virtuosity, wrote this short, poem-like piece while navigationg the compexities of love and religious inner conflict.
쇼팽의 녹턴을 떠올리게 하는 고요한 왼손 반주 위로, 오른손의 따뜻한 선율이 지친 마음을 다독여주는 듯한 느낌을 줍니다.
Reminiscent of a Chopin Nocturne, the quiet left-hand accompaniment supports a warm right-hand melody that feels like it's soothing a weary heart.

Mori's Note : A piece born when a brilliant virtuoso lets go of his strength.

The gentle flow of the arpeggios feels like it's rounding off the jagged corners of the soul.
프레데릭 쇼팽 - 녹턴 2번
F. Chopin - Nocturne, Op.9, No.2
🌙 '밤'이라는 주제를 생각했을 때, 가장 먼저 떠오른 유명한 곡이 바로 쇼팽의 녹턴 2번입니다.
The most famous piece that comes to mind when thinking of the theme "Night".
쇼팽이 20대 초반에 작곡한 이 곡은, 당시 유행하던 이탈리아 오페라의 '벨칸토(Bel canto)' 발성법을 피아노로 옮겨온 듯한 우아함이 특징인 곡입니다.
Composed in Chopin's early 20s, it is characterized by an elegance that seems to have transplanted the 'Bel Canto' singing style of Italian opera on to the piano.
☑️ 모리의 시선 : 누구나 아는 선율이지만, 질리지 않고 항상 아름답게 들리는 이유는 노래하는 오른손과 왼손의 규칙적인 반주가 잘 어우러져서 감미롭게 들리기 때문일 거예요.
Mori's Note : It's a melody everyone knows, but it never gets old because of the perfect harmony between the singing right hand and the steady rhythm of the left.
오른손의 선율이 마치 밤하늘에 뿌려진 별처럼 너무나 아름답게 들립니다.
The melody sounds as beautiful as stars scattered across the night sky.
로베르트 슈만 - 어린이 정경 중 ‘꿈’
R. Schumann - 'Träumerei' from Kinderszenen, Op.15
🌙 어른이 되어 다시 바라본 어린 시절을 그린 13개의 소곡 중 가장 사랑받는 곡입니다.
The most beloved of the 13 miniatures depicting childhood through an adult's eyes.
제목 그대로 '꿈꾸는 듯한' 몽환적인 화성과 상행하는 선율이 잠들기 전 몽글몽글한 감성을 깨워줍니다.
True to its title, the 'dreamlike' ethereal harmonies and ascending melodies awaken soft, rounded emotions before sleep.
☑️ 모리의 시선 : 짧은 소곡이지만 그 안에서 펼쳐지는 자유로운 전조와 상행하는 멜로디는 작곡가인 제게 늘 영감을 줍니다.
Mori's Note : Although it is a short miniature, the free modulations and ascending melodies within it are always an inspiration to me as a composer.

까미유 생상스 - 동물의 사육제 중 '백조'
C. Saint-saëns - 'The swan' from The carnival of the Animals
🌙 모음곡 '동물의 사육제' 중 유일하게 생전에 출판을 허락했을 만큼 생상스 본인도 아꼈던 우아한 곡입니다.
This is an elegant piece that Saint-saens cherished so much it was the only part of the Carnival of the Animals he allowed to be published during his lifetime.
첼로의 긴 호흡은 백조의 우아한 자태를, 피아노의 분산화음은 잔잔한 호숫물의 반짝임을 묘사합니다.
The long breath of the cello depicts the graceful swan, while the piano's arpeggios describe the shimmering of a quiet lake.

Mori's Note : The dignity proviede by the cellos' low-to-mid reister truly shines when heard at night.

펠릭스 멘델스존 - 한여름 밤의 꿈 중 ‘녹턴’
F. Mendelssohn - 'A midsummer night's dream' Op.61, No.7 Notturno
🌙 셰익스피어의 희곡을 바탕으로 한 이 곡은 숲 속에서 잠든 연인들을 수호하는 밤의 평온함을 그립니다.
Based on Shakespeare's play, this piece depicts the peace of the night protecting lovers asleep in the forest.
오케스트라의 호른이 주던 웅장하고 깊은 울림을 피아노로 옮겨와 더 맑고 투명한 밤의 공기를 느낄 수 있는 곡입니다.
Moving the grand, deep resonance of the orchestral horn to the piano allows for a clearer, more transparent night air.
멘델스존 특유의 정갈한 화성이 건반 위에서 더욱 선명하게 빛납니다.

프란츠 슈베르트 - 밤과 꿈
F. Schubert - Nacht und Träume
🌙 원래는 성악곡으로, 밤의 고요함과 그 속에서 펼쳐지는 아름다운 꿈에 관해 이야기하는 곡입니다.
Originally a song, this work tells of the stillness of the night and the beautiful dreams that unfold within it.
몽환적이고 서정적인 곡으로, 기타로 연주할 때의 떨림으로 서정성은 더 극대화됩니다.
It is a dreamlike and lyrical piece, and its lyricism is further maximized by the resonance of the guitar.
